A delicious and very complex white blend from Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Rich and fruit forward. Elegant and nicely balanced. Still young, but already very approachable and drinking beautifully. Will continue to age nicely in the next 15 years. A great sipping wine that will also pair nicely with food. A blend of 16% Grenache Blanc, 16% Clairette, 16% Roussanne, 16% Picpoul, 16% Bourboulenc and 16% Picardan. Aged for 6 months on the lees. 14% alcohol by volume. 93 points. $100.

White Châteauneuf has a long list of allowed grapes: Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Roussanne, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Picardan. Janasse uses three and lets Clairette lead. Elegance over excess.

An organic Bourboulenc, Grenache, Marsanne, Roussanne blend from the Saint Exupery family, famous for their most illustrious relative who wrote The Little Prince and Vol de Nuit, amongst others. Brilliant with my chicken casserole and the goat's cheese that is currently sliding off the plate.

A fabulous wine that did more to make the pork better than vice versa. Lush with nice round fruit flavors. Another wine that showed very nicely on its own. A blend of 4 Rhone whites. (See alt)

Many people think of red Rhône wines, but there are terrific white wines as well.  I received a bottle of Louis Bernard Côtes du Rhône 2023 to tell you about.  It is a blend that features Grenache Blanc, Bourboulenc, Clairette, and Roussanne grapes.   Grenache Blanc is a full-bodied white grape with a round mouthfeel, offering ripe pear, green apple, and citrus aromas, often accompanied by a subtle herbal or saline note.

I've also discovered a 60% Assyrtiko, 23% Grenache Gris, 13% Bourboulenc, 4% Grenache Blanc blend from a domaine in La Clape, very close, which I am definitely going to have to try as I love Bourboulenc, and Grenache (particularly gris).

First new wine of the year! A brilliant, fresh Vermentino, Bourboulenc, Roussanne blend from the 2024 vintage, with fresh fish, overlooking the water. Recommend the restaurant too, Le Portanel, that specializes in eels from the etang at Bages.

I did like that phrase "the bright bell pepper steel tank mono-varietal Sauvignon of popular disdain". And please do persevere with Bourboulenc, it has similar symbiotic qualities.

And now, a couple of wines from La Clape, an appellation I particularly appreciate for its use of Bourboulenc. It is the only appellation that specifies that this must be the dominant grape variety. It is a late ripener, and needs lots of sunshine, and you can absolutely taste that in the glass.

Yellow in color with a golden hue. Pretty nose and medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate and buttery, with nice complexity. Showing lemons, apples, pears, light earth, light vegetables, herbs and spices. Medium finish with lemons and light almonds. This is a very enjoyable white wine from Cotes du Rhône. Fruit forward and elegant. Much nicer than I expected. Easy drinking and engaging. A good food wine that will pair nicely with seafood. A blend of 40% Clairette, 30% Bourboulenc, 20% Grenache blanc and 10% Ugni Blanc. Aged in stainless steel vats for 4 months. 14% alcohol by volume. 88 points. $20.
