Best of all, this has always been a fine bargain from big Boutari in Greece--around $30 in new vintages. This silky red looks like it will continue aging gracefully for another 10+ years. The grape ages well. 13% alc.

1/2 This '04 Naoussa (all Xinomavro) is super. It's (no surprise) acquired more harmony in the cellar, but the brightness typical of the grape makes it fresh, lively and vibrant. If the tannins have moderated, this still has some power. The fruit is prime time, mid-palate finesse is very appealing.

This 2008 Vinsanto (bottled 2012) is perfect for drinking now--the category holds well, with those sundried grapes (Assyrtiko + 10% Aidani). There's fine tension, a mouthwatering finish with plenty of sugar and there is a fair hit of alcohol this year (14.5%).

Fantastic! I have no Mini. But I do have Boutari. Which turned out to be a surprisingly interesting story to research, as I went down a rabbit hole about the Yiannis Boutaris, who was a rock star of a mayor of Thessaloniki.

Australian, NZ, Chilean, S. African, Spain, also some great Greek wines (yes, they exist: Atlantic, Boutari, Hatzamichalis) to be found in Toronto's Danforth LCBO, and in some in the GTA.

Lots of acidity in these whites, the Santorini was excellent though pricey. The Boutari red was a little more tannic than I expected, best with food. Retsina was, well, pine-y.
