One of the more counterintuitive findings of brand science is that if someone is a HEAVY category buyer, they tend to be the LEAST loyal to brands.

Hot sauce is a great example.

People like my friend Tanya who buy a ton of bottles ALSO buy a ton of brands.

Would you rather be unique, or be remembered?

Most brands act like those are the same question. They're not.

You don't need a special idea. You need a familiar one, delivered consistently, forever.

Boring? Kind of. Also effective.

Most B2B buyers decide long before they buy.

80–90% already have brands in mind before shopping.
90% choose from that initial consideration set.

The sales cycle is long.
The mental cycle is longer.

Build familiarity early — or don’t get considered.

ROI feels logical. It’s easy to calculate.
And it’s a terrible way to measure ad effectiveness.

It misses long-term effects, future buyers, and future cash flow.
Use ROI for efficiency.
Not effectiveness. Please lord no.

Hey. I'm Christoforos. I'm Greek, I study marketing at Syracuse on a Fulbright scholarship. I write about brand strategy on medium (@c.kapsalis) and substack (@chkapsalis). Not the "10 tips to grow your DTC brand" kind. More like "the math behind the decline."

Your prospects probably haven't seen it yet. 99% of them haven't seen it at all.

Built your brand around an archetype?

Archetypes are good — if your goal is to be one-dimensional.

Your buyers have laws they operate under. Laws, not suggestions. Gravity doesn't care which archetype you picked.

Generational labels feel tidy.
The data usually isn’t.

Most Gen-Z or Boomer differences are age, life stage, or long-run change — not magic birth-year borders.

Some advice for smart marketers:
🍊 Avoid sweeping generational stereotypes — they’re probably wrong.

Big data is useless without big theory.

Mild overstatement. But exabytes of 'big data' are clogging up corporate cloud accounts with nary an insight in sight.

This is where "big theory" comes in: it helps you decide what's useful, and how to use it.
