it's completely normal, but it is very funny to me that my dad completely unconsciously falls back to a strong Bristolian accent talking to people he perceives as working-class *even when they're not from Bristol*
changing your accent is not weird, my dad does it (Texan when he's around Texans, military when he's around military, Midwest normal at other times)
