Last night was a good night at the #BuglLght. I got to see a bucket list buggie, the Brown Wasp Mantidfly Climaciella brunnea! These are Paper Wasp mimics.

A photo of a brown orange and yellow mantid fly from the side. The mantidfly's wings are dark Brown, it's body is banded brown, orange, and yellow very much like a paper wasp which it mimics. Its head has large brownish bronze eyes and it has raptorial arms much like that of a praying mantis. A photo of the mantidfly's head and forebody from above the antennae are mostly straight and range from yellow at the tips to oraange, brown, then orange and then yellow at the head. The head is dominated mostly by the large eyes, the raptorial arms are held tightly against its body. A photo of the mantid fly from above, the wings clearly visible here are brown on the outer 2/3rds and cleanish yellow in the inner portion. Another photo of the mantid fly from the front showing its head and raptorial arms in detail. The rear body slightly beyond the area of focus.
