I do not regret buying the ThinkScan 689BT diagnostic tool. This sucker had no issues scanning every module in a 2012 Chevy Volt. It's bidirectional, that means being able to toggle controls and switches individually. All this with lifetime updates for under $600

CAN is needed for parameters and torque vectoring between multiple inverters. And I'd prefer integrated inverters because of it being closely tied to the motors and sensors needed (temp and hall sensors).
Then a few canFD msgs to set torque/speed/limits to the Motor and and few status frames back...
