CDFW has reported the presence of a new gray wolf pack within Lassen Volcanic National Park, marking a significant milestone for the state’s wolf population.

The unnamed wolf pack is believed to consist of a breeding pair + at least one offspring.

On Sunday, @CDFW brought 3 orphaned mountain lion cubs to our vet hospital. The trio, estimated to be about 3 months old, were found in Portola Valley. CDFW believes the mother of the cubs is the same female that was killed by a car in the same area.

A new pack of endangered grey wolves was recently confirmed in Northern CA. The wolf population in the state has grown so much that CDFW biologists plan to start conducting an annual survey at the end of each year.

Wolves in CA are state + federally protected.

This is why lagoon/bar-built estuary breaching is highly regulated, and requires permits from numerous resource/regulatory agencies (USACE, USFWS, NMFS, RWQCB, CDFW, CCC). The Russian River here in Sonoma County is one of the few places where it's allowed, and only in limited circumstances.
