If x,y are only uncorrelated, then Cov(x,y) =0. Can we express uncorrelated-ness in terms of the CDFs as well? Yes.

This is due to a beautiful and little-known covariance identity by Hoeffding (1940):
Cov(x,y) = ∫∫[F(x, y) - F(x)*F(y)] dxdy
So the difference between independence and uncorrelated-ness comes down to point-wise equality vs. a (weaker) integral equality between the CDFs.

I prefer CDFs over histograms for empirical data. no sense in trying to differentiate a non-smooth function

Pelo menos eu nunca fui daqueles que achavam que as gurias "tinham" que ficar comigo porque eu "era legal, amigo, etc".

I use an assignment in my vis class (borrowed from Jeff Heer) on an old dataset from Burtin on bacteria resistance to different antibiotics where one of the best ways to show it is CDFs. I always hint in my distribution vis lecture that CDFs are useful and maybe one student ever has taken the hint
