Gall of the week is from Ontario. Unusually it is caused by a chalcid wasp, Hemadis nubillipennis, on blueberries, Vaccinium spp.

Encyrtid wasp, leptocentrus horned tree hopper + evil stalker . My ringlight died right at the start and I was too lazy to charge it plus the lens is now seemingly stuck inside it so I might have to replace those but there is better stuff available now atleast

I love a little green bee, but I get *really* giddy when one turns out not to be a bee at all but a chalcid wasp! This one is from a tribe that parasitizes gall-forming insects and/or eats the tissues of the galls themselves. #BugSky

Checking the Ivy Bee photos when I found this very tiny - sub 3mm interloper. Assume it to be one of the Chalcid Wasps - no idea which one, if correct.

the yard is absolutely full of these little freaks with the thin waist thick thighs. I don't necessarily think they're rare, but I've never seen more than one at once before

I've seen several of these tiny wasps, most likely Pteromalus venustus (Chalcid wasps, nest parasites of alfala leafcutter bees) around my bee house. Not sure if they emerged from last year's cocoons, or were just in the neighborhood. I don't want them to parasitize my bees but they're so pretty!

I have become a obsessed with the insects which visit the knapweed in our garden. 1st the Knapweed ghost Acanthiophilus helianthi, 1m 3f. Then Pteromalidae, today, and after hrs of research I believe this to be female Eurytoma robusta. A species of parasitoid chalcid wasp in the family Eurytomidae.

This lurid little thing (seen while enjoying a doughnut at Tynemouth Priory) is apparently a chalcid wasp, possibly Aphytis. Apparently specimens don't preserve well, so they're relatively poorly-known, but it seems this genus, assuming Aphytis is correct, parisitises scale bugs.

FWIW long-term climate data from gov't-run weather stations was absolutely essential to supporting farmers when I worked in Australia. Wet winter suppresses populations of lucerne seed wasp/alfalfa seed chalcid. Can't even identify those patterns without climate data.
