#CHEGD
Back on the graveyard shift, a group of Earthtongues (Geoglossum fallax) alongside a pair of Silky Pinkgills (Entoloma sericeum) - both part of the CHEGD group of fungi symbolising healthy grassland ecosystems.

Enjoying a long weekend away in the Derbyshire Dales and taking plenty of opportunities to check out the Grassland #Fungi round here! #Waxcaps and Spindles galore, and many other #chegd beauties too! Thoroughly enjoying the #WildFungiHour

First Waxcaps of the season in East Cornwall. Date Waxcap, Hygrocybe spadicea in good numbers, including some likely var. albifolia.
No other CHEGD in evidence yet

It’s CHEGD season here at RSPB The Oa.

The abundance and diversity of CHEGD fungi are a really fantastic indicator of the current health and condition of our unimproved coastal grasslands.

Waxcap 9 - Scarlet Waxcap (Hygrocybe coccinea). Our smallest non-squamulose red species. The red cap is greasy, the paler gills are adnate and the thin smooth stem can be all red or a combination of red to yellow. Cap colour can fade to quite yellowish. One of the commoner CHEGD species.

It's waxcap season - fungi of nutrient poor grasslands that tend to peak in late autumn. This is the Date Waxcap, Hygrocybe spadicea, from grassland within the Balmoral estate. It is a rare species and an indicator of high quality fungi (CHEGD) grassland. #FungiFriday

Perhaps overlooked, lick your waxcaps.

Waxcap 43 - Dune Waxcap (Hygrocybe conicoides). Although not useful for CHEGD grassland assessments, good to know this species exists. Red conical cap that blackens only slightly, generally at the tip. Grows in coastal sand dunes with acuticonica and members of the conica agg.

I'm unlikely to see any more Waxcap species this season but thought I'd post some other interesting CHEGD species. Here's the fabulous Mealy Meadowcap (Pseudotricholoma metapodium). Chunky, pink on bruising and with a beautiful bready smell. Fruits early and is classed as endangered on the red list.

Dark Velvet Fanvault (Camarophyllopsis atrovelutina). A small and difficult to spot species. Cap is darker than schulzeri. Gills are white and broadly decurrent. I've only seen this species in sites with high numbers of other CHEGD species. There are likely more Camarophyllopsis species to be named.

You know it's Strictly time of year when you'd rather make a heat map of grassland fungi (CHEGD) than sit on the comfy chair with partner and watch TV.

A few pics from today too, Slimy Waxcap, White Spindles and Parrot Waxcap.

At last! Hampton Heath has - at last - had enough rain for its first #CHEGD ( #waxcap ) grassland fungi of the autumn.
Silky Pinkgill (Entoloma sericeum) - unless any actual #mycologists know better!

The rain is bringing out a few more waxcaps and pinkgills at Hampton Heath.

We now have 20 CHEGD species recorded here in suburban, SW London - with another 3 or 4 possibles.

More to come after today
