My 3rd great grandfather, John Harper, fought in the Civil War with the 28th Regiment of U.S. Colored Troops (nps.gov/civilwar/sea...).
He discharged from duty on Nov. 8, 1865, in Corpus Christie, Texas.
Why? “Services no longer required.”
