The challanges this time will be:
- Avoiding MPEG-TS (rules out almost all existing streaming tools)
- Packaging CMAF HLS in a compliant way (learned a lot doing this for Anthrocon!)
- Keep video & audio aligned from asynchronous clock sources (without resampling the audio!)
- Make it robust

It's still funny to me that the only way to live stream FLAC audio (even just to the origin) is Icecast, and HLS/CMAF with fMP4.
While SRT, MoQ, and even E-RTMP all theoretically support it, there's no tooling to handle it at the container level. Most live streaming tools are still MPEG-TS based.

Still haven't found any FOSS tools that output decent HLS/CMAF manifests, particularly when dealing with fancy (HDR) codecs and multiple audio qualities. GPAC does okay, but I've had to fix them by hand so often I almost want to write my own automation for doing it.

streamplace uses http live streaming, but uses a newer format called CMAF (common media application format) so it can use ranges and thus keep connections better versus regular file by file segments

Been working all week on a website for Anthrocon's Film Unit video content so it can easily be AirPlayed / Casted with HDR & 5.1 Surround support. Almost done with it after drowning in ffmpeg commands & CMAF manifests of course.

Hmm, now that I have a CPU that isn’t 8 years old I should revisit creating HLS/CMAF variants for Anthrocon’s stuff on a small website so it’s easier to AirPlay & Cast with HDR & 5.1 support. Could use it for other things in the future as well. 🤔
