Codco, Martin Short, and Andrea Martin were among the "impressive pool of revue talent" floating around Toronto in 1974.

1988.

Canadian Comedy versus British Comedy.

An episode of CODCO that absolutely roasted the style and tone of old fashioned British television comedy:

No one does better slap slap stick rebuttals like "This Hour Has 22 Minutes" ... Being Back Marg Delahunty with Trump, Hegseth, Pierre Poilievre, and Carney! Better Yet let have a go at Danielle Smith! Then there is Codco ... Marg at the Mental!

From his days in Codco to now, I have always loved this man. He's a National treasure for sure.

Watching this now & unsurprisingly CODCO regular Andy Jones is the cast's MVP, playing a guy who could easily be a CODCO character who wandered over to Cape Spear & stayed there. Recommended to fans of Local Hero, Bagdad Cafe, Northern Exposure or all of the above.
First Obscure YT of 2026:

William Hurt & Molly Parker star in the Canadian RARE BIRDS (2001) sort of a dry quirky LOCAL HERO-type comedy about a restaurant, relationships, and a guy making a homemade little submarine. Directed by Sturla Gunnarsson.

Kicking it old school today with Newfoundland's Codco ❤️

Very true, Codco was also a fantastic show from that same era.

All this talk of the schism in the Catholic Church has reminded me to once again share one of my favorite Codco bits. The CBC refused to air this sketch in 1991, which caused Andy Jones ('Father Fitzgibbon') to resign from the show.

Codco changed my life and made me fall in love with Newfoundland.

CODCO (1988 - 1993). Newfoundland sketch comedy which birthed 30 years of (mostly) milquetoast Canadian comedy (sorry!). Still brilliant, and wonderfully queer friendly (thanks to the late Tommy Sexton) but its focus on contemporary politics makes it less timeless than KITH.

Codco gave them a run for their money but I think you had to be from Newfoundland to get a lot of their comedy.

This skit about gay Jesuit and repressed Catholic priests took the CBC right to the limit. This was broadcast around the same time period as The Raccoons.

Barbara Frum was one of the most respected journalists in Canadian history.
So well-known, she was parodied on many shows including CODCO, The Raccoons and Canadian Sesame Street.
Three decades after her death, she is still revered by many.
This is her story.
