I think she just found the sheer complicatedness of using the gears properly much too burdensome. It spoiled her enjoyment of motoring.

James Douglas, HBC man and second Governor, is a great example of the messy, complicatedness. He was hated by many settlers for being too sympathetic to FN but also managed the company and then colony in ways that shifted balance of power toward settlers.

At first, I didn’t like the idea of him biking downtown altogether. Then we looked at a map and figured out a route that would be fairly safe. He’s actually pretty good on the bike, but West Main it’s a whole other level of complicatedness and danger.

To me, crunch is a blend of leaning more towards rules rather than rulings and having fiddly bits that increase complexity (and/or complicatedness). Latency greases the gears to make them all run smoothly, so a crunchier game (i.e. one with fiddly bits and complexity) can still feel *smooth*.

Like I’ve wanted a Cherub sona for a bit over a year now and I’m just now realizing part of the reason Cherub’s exist is as a parody of the complicatedness and strangeness of troll society, cherubs are a purposefully confusing race that makes no sense at times and that’s maybe the point??????
I’m really starting to realize one of the core themes of Homestuck is self parody and what that means for the author and characters
