Those people would instantly consider themselves to valuable to be subjected to covid risk if covid safe spaces existed. The ridicule they heap on the vulnerable and covidzero advocates is 95% fear and 5% ignorance. Only fear makes you as rabid and irrational as they are

The frustration can be valid, even if it's not a justification for ending masking. The difficulties is communication are definitely valid for the former!

We could all be safely unmasked if the people in power had taken a #COVIDzero approach. Heck, they still could. If they wanted to. If.

[Pre-print] Faraone et al, 2023: Serum from people who received BA.4/5 #bivalent vaccines, many of whom had recent #COVID19 infections, still showed a 10x drop in neutralization for EG.5.1 (vs. BA.4/5). EG.5.1 is antigenically distant from XBB.

Antibody titres against wild-type, BA.5, XBB.1.5, EG.5.1, HV.1, HK.3, JD.1.1, & JN.1 after XBB.1.5 monovalent vaccine administration, XBB infection, & omicron infection followed by XBB.1.5 monovalent vaccine administration. Titres against all variants rose. They were more or less the same (1x to -1.2x) between XBB.1.5 & EG.5.1, but were 2.9x lower for XBB.1.5 monovalent vaccine recipients, 4.3x lower for XBB-infected people, & 3.4x lower for omicron-infected & XBB.1.5 vaccinated people. Titres were highest for the latter group.

Wang et al, 2023: Controlling for socioeconomic factors & comorbidities, 0-5y/os with a prior, documented #COVID19 infection had a 1.4x risk of a first-time, medically attended #RSV infection over COVID-19-naive 0-5y/os in 2022, & 1.32x in 2021.

Bailey et al, 2022: Tests using a "cough machine" showed that coughing with an elbow in front of one's mouth resulted in some of the worst viral contamination up to 4m away. Covering coughs with one's hand, fist, or elbow simply redirects the particles. www.reddit.com/r/COVIDZero/...

The province's public health goal is to keep cases low enough that we don't exceed healthcare capacity and we don't overwhelm contract tracing.

But any strategy other than #COVIDzero seems to me to be profoundly inequitable and ableist.

Want to reiterate how much I appreciate how seriously our prov. govts are taking this in Atlantic Canada. E.g., #NovaScotia brought & mandatory masks *after* we'd already essentially hit #COVIDzero in summer. Thank you for being proactive. @nsgov...
