i'm just a dude but i initially read it to mean that he was dealing with SHARP among his cadets & he couldn't leave until they had none; not that he himself was the focus of the complaints themselves.

I was in the raf cadets for just long enough to get to fly a plane, which I only got to do because I lied about being colourblind, and then I immediately quit after that so I didn't have to go on any camps or route marches
