Sometimes they do linear before calc3, which works well because then linear gives you a better language to teach calc3. But what if they do it before calc 1? Could you just start with multivariable, and treat 1 var as an important special case?

Got some math research published in 2022 which led to a math art residency at Rose-Hulman in 2024.
Math is beautiful, I think it helps keep my brain "young."

Even if you make it past a certain point in school, make sure you at least pull your baby to your level, then push them further. My oldest is in college for mechanical eng and taking courses like Calc3!!! I didn't get past discrete math, so you do your best to ensure they do better than you.

I want to learn vector calculus the old school way. Kinda preschool in a way. Heaviside is quite a writer.

I don't think the choice is textbook vs source material. A 3rd option is a carefully crafted collection of problem sets with some supplementary material and project work. I've taught A2/Geo and Calc3 this way for some time. It's lively and IMO yields deeper understanding and independence of mind.

this is more true than you would think (in most places calc3 is just extending calc1 into multiple dimensions)

I believe that a key condition is that the error makes things easier.
So, yesterday a capable Calc3 student decided that the integral of a product was the product of the integrals. She's done a million probs correctly, but in this moment the error "saved" a ton of time and she went with it. 1/3
