🌏🌎 Spoon-billed Sandpiper (Calidris pygmaea) The Spoon-billed Sandpiper is a small wader with a unique spatulate bill. Breeding adults have a red-brown head and breast, while non-breeding birds are grayish-brown. They breed on the coasts of the Bering Sea and migrate along the Pacific coast to wintering grounds in Southeast Asia. This critically endangered species forages by walking forward with its head down, sweeping its bill from side to side to sift for invertebrates in the mud and shallow water. 2.5 Flash (Edited) No known subspecies are recognised.
