Been a while since I last saw a Pear Slug (Caliroa cerasi)! On Hawthorn in Shropshire. #Sawfly #Hymenoptera

Larvae of a Caliroa species, probably Caliroa cinxia, feeding on an Oak leaf in North Norwich today. This genus are known as the slug sawflies thanks to the appearance of the larvae, which do have legs but short and tucked out of sight.

A two-slug-sawfly afternoon. Caliroa cerasi is fairly dark and was found feeding on Pear leaves, whilst these Caliroa cinxia (communal feeding, yellow head & thorax, no dark bar between the temples) were stripping an Oak leaf. Both seen in the same north Norwich garden.

I went leaf-fossicking for tiny creatures today and found several tiny Mullein moth (Cucullia verbasci) caterpillars on Figwort, as well as a baker's dozen Oak slug sawfly (Caliroa annulipes) larvae munching on Lime leaves.

Another Caliroa slugworm sawfly. Not yet the final instar but I suspect this might be C. cinxia, Yellow-headed Oak Slugworm. Head yellow-brown without a dark band, anal bristles pale and 2nd and 3rd pair thoracic legs dark.

Several of these Caliroa on oak this evening. Dark band across the head above the eyes, 2nd and 3rd pairs of thoracic legs dark and anal bristles pale. Characteristics mean these should be C. annulipes - Ring-footed Slugworm.

I agree with Rob. Caliroa cinxia.

Cycled to Exmouth yesterday for a quick wander round The Maer: remnant dunes with a few of the typical wasp fauna still hanging on. ALT texts for names etc.

Could these 2 be Pear Slug Sawfly larvae - Caliroa cerasi? I found them on an Oak sapling which although this Sawfly is known to use various deciduous trees I am unaware if it uses Oak? Any comments /suggestions welcome thanks.

An interesting mix of small creatures from today's walk: two tiny caterpillars I can't find in my guide book (often the way I find, as the illustrations are so small); galls on Hawthorn caused by the mite Dasineura crataegi; & a Caliroa annulipes sawfly larva munching on Oak.

A couple of sawfly larvae found on some West Himalayan Birch (Betula utilis jacquemontii) planted for the Queens diamond jubilee. The slug one, my 3rd in recent weeks, is Caliroa annulipes, whilst the inhabitant of the orangey-brown patch mine is Heterarthrus nemoratus.
