Gilnockie railway station, Langholm railway station, Canonbie railway station closed on the same day.

Because warning Areas were based on Telephone exchange areas some Scottish Villages were warned from English Carrier Control Points: Berwick (23 ROC Durham) and Carlisle (22 ROC Carlisle).
In addition Dumfries, despite being wholly in Scotland, was connected to 22 ROC Carlisle.

The last of England : Riddings or Liddel Viaduct : 10 June 2026. Looking out under the marvellous disused skew viaduct that carried the Canonbie and Langholm branch railway line across the Liddel Water where the river forms the border between England, Cumberland on the right, and Scotland, Dumfries & Galloway, on the left. The viaduct, part of the works latterly known as the Waverley Route, was opened in 1864, losing its passenger service after precisely a century in 1964 and was finally closed and abandoned in 1967. The curved viaduct is Listed, as Grade 2* south of the Border and Category A north of the Border. It has nine semi-elliptical arches on a skew and is mostly constructed in local red sandstone. This photo was taken during an official visit to view the repair works carried out in 2025/26. Trees on left and image dominated by the stone pillar centre with the skew arch rising up and across to the right. The bridge can be seen curving left - tot he right, through the arch, open fields and the Liddel Water.

Today I am mostly inspecting Riddings Viaduct - here in England looking across the water to Scotland. Taking the Canonbie branch line across Liddel Water it opened in 1864 & closed in 1967.
