What can the #IndustrialRevolution teach us about today? In new research, #HSGProf Bruno Caprettini, Joachim Voth (UZH) and Alex Trew (University of Glasgow) examine how labour scarcity helped Britain transition towards mechanised production and sustained #economicgrowth. https://unisg.link/b15x.

Did Nazi marches persuade or polarize voters? In 1932 Hamburg, full exposure raised Nazi vote share by ~1 pp (18% of citywide gain), but only by widening divides: support rose in Nazi-leaning areas and fell in opposition areas. Spillovers made up ~half the effect. academic.oup.com/jeea/advance...

The evidence of @jvoth.bsky.social and Bruno Caprettini illustrates that while new technologies typically boost output overall, not everyone benefits – and the losers may not always suffer in silence.
