"Behavioral economics" should really be called "cognitive economics" such that it's understood to be aligned with "cognitive" psychology instead of "behavioral" psychology.

Last month, NSF extended its unbroken streak of Nobel laureates in economics who received agency funding to an astonishing 30 years.

But in FY26, the agency eliminated new grants in economics—and many other social sciences. Mike Woodford, one of the new laureates, says NSF is 'playing with fire'.
US social sciences face existential crisis after NSF cuts
The US National Science Foundation is a major funder of economics and archaeology research but in 2026 awarded no new grants in those disciplines.

“The economics of the token” lol
Anthropic’s S-1 leaves two disclosure gaps, argue Ilan Strauss and Tim O’Reilly, co-directors of the AI Disclosures Project: its relationships with cloud partners like Amazon, Google and Microsoft, and the economics of the “token.” They urge the SEC to request more before the IPO.
Anthropic Needs to Disclose Its Tokenomics Before Its IPO
The AI Disclosures Project's Ilan Strauss and Tim O’Reilly consider Anthropic's compute bet and the need for enhanced operating metric disclosures.

Skinner-style "behavioral psychology" basically means "ignore mental frameworks, only focus on observed behavior". Which gets you pretty close to classic economics and "revealed preference".

"Behavioral economics" is a *reaction* to that framework - saying you should look at mental frameworks!

FT journalist encounters economics for the first time, as he creates graph in £ rather than %GDP
Britain's welfare ratchet.

My column for @financialtimes.com. Political incentives, rising expectations on the state & deeper economic failings make the UK's benefits system hard to rein in.

The idea that economics and identity are totally separate spheres is one of the dumbest ideas in politics and actual policy researchers have demonstrated over and over again why

More evidence of the volatile causal loops in today’s world of GEO-ECONOMICS:
• Geopolitics and national security → economics
• Economics → domestic politics
• Domestic politics → economic policy
• Economic policy → geopolitics and national security (but opposite to how it started!)

Trickle-Down Economics clearly isn't working, so | think it's time we try Piñata Economics where we beat the rich with sticks until the wealth is redistributed.

Happy Halloween.

Trickle-down economics is nothing more than a cruel hoax designed to enrich corporations and the super-rich. For working people, it's been 40 years of all trick and no treat.

Enough.
