The fort in that picture - which includes the casemate museum & the room where Jefferson Davis was imprisoned after the civil war - was once the location of the Center of Initial Military Training, which I commanded. Our main office was inside the fortress.

The Sd.Kfz.6 halftrack was made into a tank destroyer by adding a primitive casemate and a captured Soviet F-22 gun. Only nine were built, with the last joining the 605th Tank Destroyer Battalion in North Africa #OTD in 1942. #tanks #history #WW2 #WWII

The Soviets liked the StuG concept and began developing a similar SPG on the T-34 chassis. In the meantime, a project was approved #OTD in 1942 to convert captured StuGs and Pz.III tanks to use a Soviet casemate and 122 mm howitzer. #tanks #History #WW2 #WWII

The Stiletto is an up-gunned version of the Dagger: small craft hangar replaced with a particle cannon, number of gun blisters increased, casemate turret attached. The already overtaxed reactor did not appreciate this development.

The previously-seen Dagger frigate, rebuilt for front-line warfare. A weird casemate turret with twin-linked heavy cannons was added on top of the superstructure, more gun blisters can be seen on the wheel-like structure at the rear. Same ship from the front, the barrels of its many weapons ominously glistening red. The small craft hangar at the bottom front has been replaced with an axial particle cannon of some sort. Work on the KV-14 SPG began #OTD in 1943. The vehicle on the KV-1S chassis featured a new hexagonal casemate and a 152 mm ML-20S gun-howitzer. Six weeks later it was accepted into service as the SU-152. #tanks #history #WW2 #WWII

An order for 400 Schneider CA.1 tanks was placed #OTD in 1916. This tank consisted of an armoured casemate on a chassis of an American Holt Baby tractor. With a 75 mm cannon and bulletproof spaced armour in a 13.5 ton package, this was a very competitive tank for its time. #tanks #history #WW1 #WWI

#OTD in 1944 Alkett was ordered to begin producing the Panzer IV/70. Their solution combined the regular Pz.Kpfw.IV chassis and the casemate of Vomag's tank destroyer. This design was quick to make, but greatly overweight and unreliable. #tanks #history #WW2 #WWII

The Pz.Kpfw.38(t) chassis could carry a large gun, but the placement of the fighting compartment in the center made the installation of a casemate difficult. #OTD in 1943 work kicked off to rearrange the chassis, moving the engine to the front. #tanks #history #WW2 #WWII
