The colossal sculpture at the top of Castel Sant’Angelo in Rome shows the Archangel Michael. The bronze work was created by the sculptor Peter Anton von Verschaffelt and inaugurated in June 1752. The statue is about 4 meters high (the wingspan is about 5 meters).

Aerial photo of Cockermouth Castle in 1947. The first castle built here was Norman but this was almost destroyed by the forces of Robert the Bruce in July 1315 during a campaign into Cumbria. Much of the present castle is from repair and rebuilding after the attack.
