Nearly six weeks ago, but I’m still in awe of how magnificent The Capitol, dedicated to Jupiter, Juno and Minerva, at Dougga was.

#RomanSiteSaturday - The monumental eastern gate of Roman Philippopolis (Plovdiv, Bulgaria). It opened onto a broad, paved street lined with Corinthian colonnades and shops, and incorporated an earlier honorary arch, likely built during Hadrian's reign to commemorate his visit.

The hippodrome (circus) at Caesarea Maritima was the venue for the Actian Games held every four years in honour of emperor Augustus. The games included horse- and chariot-races, athletics, gladiatorial combats, and wild beast hunts.

We need a bit of sunshine on this wet and stormy day, so here's the west wall and colonnade of Hadrian's Library in Athens. Didn't manage to get inside due to its eclectic opening hours, but you can see a lot from the street.

The hippodrome is approximately 300–315 m (around 1,000–1,033 ft) long and about 50–68 m (164–223 ft) wide. It seated roughly 10,000–12,000 spectators (with later expansions or estimates scaling up to 15,000–20,000).
