Breaking Code: Deciphering the Biology of the Selfless Virus-like Gene Transfer Agents (LE_J27DTP) | Doctoral Training Partnership
Bacteria commonly exchange genetic information (DNA) in a process called horizontal gene transfer as they evolve and adapt to changes in their local environment. Understanding horizontal gene transfer...

Allosteric activation mechanism of DriD, a WYL-domain containing transcription regulator - Communications Biology
Using X-ray crystallography, biochemistry and HDX-MS, this study sheds light on how ssDNA allosterically modulates the activity of DriD, a Caulobacter crescentus transcription activator involved in a non-canonical DNA damage response pathway.

As I am dusting off my yearly "Introduction to evolutionary cell biology" class, a question is dawning on me: what is up with the one bacterium (Caulobacter) thas has intermediate filaments (crescentin)? Horizontal transfer? Convergence? Did LUCA have intermediate filaments?! does one of you know? 🙏
