One of the low beds. It just all came together better than either Native Plant Guy or I expected.

I had at least 4 separate coyote encounters, two in person and two on timelapse yesterday. We also had a rare hawk visit and rare Steller's jay visit.

Sounds beautiful. The organs can carry a stark beauty when it’s hot and dry, but I bet all the greenery is spectacular. We’re still getting the summer wildflowers that had gone into hiding along with massive amounts of bright chamisa, sunflowers, and fields of coreopsis and purple asters

It might have been a bit closer to September's end, given the degree to which the chamisa had already done to seed, although geography also has a great deal to do with it. Here, out fields are mostly brown this year, but the chamisa is thriving: brilliant deep gold, setting the land aflame.

It's a shot of an old barn among the chamisa, listing slightly, a hayfield beyond it, with the year's final drop baled into giant rolls scattered around a field still more green than not.

We got some late summer rain in the Zunis so the fields are golden with coreopsis. Lots of Chamisa, too, pretty, but achooo!

Much sympathy, I lived on
antihistamines for many years, count myself very lucky allergy shots (after once a month for 6 years)kicked in and I no longer suffer. The coreopsis and chamisa are a golden blanket across our countryside and I no longer have to curse them.

The High Desert looks eerily comforting in infrared color. After the Chamisa in the background are the Cerrillos, Ortiz, and Sandias. #falsecolorinfrared #720nm #LandscapePhotography #highdesert #PecosPoet #Chamisa

But these blossoms are not chamisa; they're wild sunflowers, a huge dense bank of them, like those that used to line the ditches and pond and berms in the fields. We have the chamisa still; we have had no sunflowers lately, until the few that emerged this year.
