Um crime motivado pelo estômago ocorreu no alojamento de funcionário de uma siderúrgica no distrito de Belagavi, em Karnataka (Índia), em 23 de agosto. Dois amigos estavam comendo frango quando um deles, identificado como Arunkumar Balishtar, irritou-se e acusou o outro, Sathiram Chandradev, de estar comendo mais partes do alimento do que ele. De acordo com a ETV Bharat, os dois haviam consumido bebida alcoólica. Durante a disputa por pedaços de frango, Arunkumar pegou uma faca e investiu contra Sathiram. A vítima foi golpeada no peito. Logo após o crime, o agressor levou a vítima a um hospital governamental. Na tentativa de encobrir o homicídio, ele alegou aos médicos e à polícia que o amigo havia sofrido uma queda acidental de um prédio. Porém, a equipe médica que atendeu Sathiram e os investigadores suspeitaram da natureza do ferimento, que não correspondiam ao de uma queda. Durante os interrogatórios conduzidos pela polícia de Karnataka, Arunkumar acabou confessando o esfaqueamento. A vítima não resistiu aos ferimentos e faleceu no hospital. O acusado foi preso e o caso foi registrado formalmente como homicídio.
