Abandoned industrial remains in the Cheesden Valley. Cheesden Brook once provided power for at least 15 cotton mills and employment for 2,000 people.

🌄 The Rossendale hills, Lancashire are one of Britain's greatest hidden gems. I go there to explore often. Yesterday, whilst out on a walk in the Cheesden Valley, I came across a ghostly face 👻 within the old industrial ruins...and captured it on camera 😱📸 #thread

The lodestar of the Cheesden Valley is the ruins of Washwheel Mill, and whilst setting up a shot from a great height of the full chimney I thought I'd use the zoom 👀 on my drone to take a look inside.. 👻

What I thought was a 👻 ghost turned out to be something far more magical — a Tawny Owl resting deep within the old chimney, guardian of the Cheesden Valley. 🦉🌙

Most excellent industrial archaeology today at Cheesden Lumb Mill. Autumn and post-med industrial landscapes go together so well.
