#Chemophobia
Chemophobia is so weird to me because you’re literally just a pile of chemicals and everything you’ve ever experienced and ever will experience is just a chemical reaction

Chemophobia is killing Americans both physically and intellectually

Chemophobia, the irrational fear of chemicals, is a public health threat. news.immunologic.org/p/chemophobi...
Chemophobia - the fear of chemicals - is a public health crisis
Low science literacy and lack of biology, chemistry, and toxicology knowledge exacerbates this global health threat.

I spoke at a clinical toxicology conference today about how chemophobia & disinformation harms science, medicine, & health.

It rounds out a busy couple weeks of conference talks.

While we’ve been watching targeted attacks on vaccines, there are MANY other biomedical fields under attack too.

Chemophobia is such a problem and it keeps getting worse. Most of the time it’s also this obviously unjustified and incorrect. We really need to teach the basic sciences in this country.

And the chemophobia! What does he think chemicals are exactly?

there's some solid #chemophobia for you
I hate LA so much lol

Scientists harness knowledge, nature, AND chemical synthesis to improve health.

Chemophobia is breaking public health.

It’s the common thread linking all science rejection: fear around vaccines, food, medicine, agriculture, & cosmetics.

Chemophobia is Breaking Public Health
Fear of “chemicals” has become the universal engine of vaccine rejection, food myths, anti-GMO activism, and RFK Jr's assault on science

I don't think so. It's a particularly malignant blend of orthorexia and chemophobia, I just don't think it has a specific name.

Chemical understanding isn't great generally, and sadly this leads to chemophobia, overblown claims, and huge misunderstandings of the type you're referencing.

It centers around chemophobia & the appeal to nature fallacy — which crosses ideological lines.

That’s why you see liberals & conservatives echoing “ban artificial dyes” refrains.

This fear of “manmade” chemicals is a theme of wellness industry & influencer profiteering. It’s unfounded.

Makary has a long history of undermining science & medicine.

He’s questioned vaccine safety, lies about basic biology, erodes public health, spreads chemophobia & misinformation about causes of illness,

and claims he’s going to be the champion of “FDA transparency.”

That’s another lie.

The chemical identity is what matters.
The dose of a chemical matters.
The route of exposure matters.

We need more chemistry education.

Chemophobia is harming our society & health. It allows disinformation to run rampant.

The bigger issue?

Red 3 is not impacting health.

Chemophobia is a distraction from REAL food-related issues:

1) food deserts
2) diets low in fiber
3) lack of healthcare
4) overall dietary composition
5) reducing cost of produce
6) implementing modern farming methods
7) exercise habits

RFK Jr. has a virtue that he exceeds at: he is an excellent poster child for the dangers of reflexive chemophobia and anti-corpratism without deeper understanding of things.

Okay, have fun with your chemophobia
October 10, 2024 at 3:27 AM
Hey Gavin Newsom: maybe stop letting the EWG lobby you.

You’re wildly out of touch with science. And you’ve been parroting chemophobia about food dyes for too long while ignoring actual factors that impact food & nutrition.

You selectively reject science, and it is NOT helping people.

He's such an amazing indictment of 'wellness' chemophobia...
16 million people are losing their healthcare and hospitals are already closing because of it but it’s a win because one of the bottom tier fast food restaurants is going to start selling the same Mexican Cokes that you can already get at literally every store

History will look back on the misspent MAHA energy to impact chronic disease and see it as little more than industry friendly marketing with a dash of chemophobia

Fear of “chemicals” is spreading well beyond the wellness aisle — and now it’s driving political messaging as much as marketing copy, as HuffPost’s

The legislation will just be whackamole as industry finds alternative chemicals to replace these ones with. Chemophobia isn't a long term policy solution.

I have written extensively about RFK Jr’s long & dangerous career in anti-science activism, starting with anti-farming chemophobia. Many people don’t know that lies about glyphosate & GMOs originate with him too.
