There was some confusion about what I meant by 'billboards' so to help, this is what mean.

Dev build runs at 60fps on the deck. Well, that means I can stop worrying if the new scene is too expensive. In particular, the materials.

Today was very very productive.
Goodbye, checker dev room.

Hello, rusty dev room!

This is a huge milestone because I finally put to proof my idea of putting billboarded assets in the game with Clover. Since the characters are already flat, cheap-to-make assets won't look out of place!

Material test —Not a indicative of final style, but still cool.

(I set out to make an art style that rendered like how I illustrate. I feel like I've gotten pretty close.)

I'm worried I may have to darken a few colors in the palette. My options for dark scenes feel pretty limited. Perhaps I need to look at how some PICO artists have used them.

Any time now, gonna be up to my eyeballs in brutalist concrete structures.

A good start.
Currently using a POM, but I don't think I'll keep it. Or maybe keep it for EPIC graphics.

Overly simplifying what I'm doing, but you can see some of the steps to the final render.

Sometimes I feel really smart.
This is one of those times.

I realized that I had more than enough bytes in a RGB buffer to encode 6 index(32) values. This has completely changed how I handle the rendering in LC and have since completely rewrote said rendering from the ground up.

Pile(BUN)ker.

I usually don't work on this during the week, but I needed to unwind something fierce and this helps fight the bad brain bullshit.

So, I spent time trying out audio for the execute. Made 5 different cam angles for the kill to reduce fatigue.

I am pleased.
