I tweaked chromium’s design a bit #sonicthehedgehog

how is it not standards compliant? from my experience Firefox tends to have standards ready earlier than Chrome does

or do you mean how Firefox is obviously incapable of keeping up with Chromium's dozens of non-web standard compliant features? because that's a given

Why is Chromium's scrollbar so goddamn ugly 😭😭

I'd argue that for the most part, TypeScript's policy of mandating 2+ browser engines is actually a net positive for the web as a whole

Anything that goes against Chromium's habit of forcing the hand on the whole ecosystem by shipping APIs without consulting standards bodies first is good

sometimes i think about how the jpeg xl thread on chromium's bugtracker has outlasted cohost. i havent gotten an email from it in a while tho

Lit HTML v3 is delightfully simple. I'm starting to like it a lot for chromium's webui.

I wrote a blog about my internship at @igalia.com working on Chromium's Linux Wayland (the engine behind Google Chrome, Brave, Edge, and ChatGPT Atlas), and how I became an official Committer in the project: abdalrahmangad.github.io/posts/browse...

What I'm really interested in is how much of chromium's market share is edge

firefox (and less so safari) are the only things keeping the web standards based and not at the whims of chromium's dev team

please use firefox

Our decision was to avoid removing this since it could make things worse, especially if Vanadium is used outside GrapheneOS on a small set of devices. The intention of Chromium's approach is stopping hardware fingerprinting but it causes a persistent random fingerprint instead.

Shocked I tell you, shocked. 🫠

The Browser Push is a big part of the next wave of AI horseshit.

Gotta reject it at every turn.

Makes Gecko-based browsers like Firefox/Zen all the more important as we maintain alternatives to Chromium's monopoly.

I will second the Vivaldi recommendation if you can't ge along with Firefox.

A notable portion of the Vivaldi team is OG Opera browser folks from before it became another Chromium reskin and killed everything that made Old Opera good. Vivaldi is what Opera with Chromium's engine should have been.

"decentralized applications" named as use-case and not immediately rejected, in this WIP change to Chromium's WebTransport throttling algo.

It's worth noting that Chromium's build system handles this perfectly. New compiler? All the .cpp files rebuild, including the .pch files. Perfect dependency tracking. It's possible.

Chrome's"V8 Optimizer" toggle started out as a JIT toggle. However, Chromium's WebAssembly support currently requires JIT and they quickly crippled the setting in an emergency update. It now only disables the highest 2 tiers of the JIT, so a lot of the security value is missing.
May 17, 2025 at 2:15 PM
Chromium's V8 Optimizer toggle for disabling JavaScript JIT compilation was changed to only disable the 2 higher tiers of JIT compilation while still leaving the baseline JIT compiler enabled. This also caused the device management policy for JIT predating this to change meaning.

This is effectively what we put in Chromium's AI coding policy. "Authors must self-review and understand all code and documentation updates [...] before sending them for review". And we had to add some consequences after a wave of slop.

#Medsky🧪 #publichealth Little evidence for #chromium’s benefits . Notably, much of this #chromium is leached from stainless steel cookware & food processing equipment, rather than coming from our food.
Chromium made it into multivitamins, not because science proved it’s essential, but because nutritionists in the 1950s suspected it was important.

As science has evolved, it looks like we get what we need from stainless steel cookware, not food.

No real harm, no real benefit 🩺
Why chromium is considered an essential nutrient, despite having no proven health benefits
Dietary supplement companies tout chromium as a way to boost energy, weight loss and blood sugar control. But the studies behind these claims are either flawed or inconclusive.

@vaporeon.baby No seriously :neofox_what: Ublock origin is like 90% of the reason I use Firefox on Android, especially with Chromium's Manifest V3 shenanigans.
