Mahan and Clausewitz and Sun Tzu are rolling in their graves laughing.
💁‍♂️Trump says Iran is very unfairly blocking the Strait of Hormuz because the US has already won the war.

“It’s even unfair on their part. We already won! They have no right to keep doing what they’re doing.”

Who needs Clausewitz when you have such advice.

“There's an old saying in Clausewitz—I know it's in Jomini, probably in Clausewitz—that strategy is the use of battles for... for... battles get you the thing you want.”

Rep Rich McCormick (R-GA) talks about Clausewitz and makes clear from the instant he opens his mouth that he's never read Clausewitz. It's a MAGA thing. bsky.app/profile/atru...

Ah, once again someone has confused Clausewitz with the Marquis de Sade.
Rep. Rich McCormick on Iran: "I'm a big Clausewitzian warfare guy. I believe in dominance. We are the dominant world superpower. These guys are not. I would've been unrelenting until the end."

"The aggressor is always peace-loving... he would prefer to take over our country unopposed."

JD Vance: "I'm headed to Minneapolis where we're gonna talk with ICE agents and local officials about how we turn down the chaos. My simple piece of advice to them is going to be if you want to turn down the chaos in Minneapolis, stop fighting immigration enforcement."

Yeah, Clausewitz is easy to read but I don't know that many (any?) readers actually understand Clausewitz on first reading unaided.

It is really a text best mediated by an instructor.
Clausewitz is extremely easy to read but also extremely easy to misunderstand.

I think Clausewitz had a quote about this
As others ( @brasidas.bsky.social ) have pointed out, this is a bet that the price shock will be so extreme as to compel opening.

The problem with that reasoning, as I see it, is that war does not obey the logic of markets. It has its own logic and there may be no peace to be had at any price.
This was the analysis OP was scoffing at.

Apropos of nothing in particular “Dunning, Kruger & Clausewitz” kinda sounds like the name of a law firm

Like von Clausewitz wrote, "war is the continuation of the constantly shifting emotional needs of a decaying billionaire pedo."
'In response to the Inspector General’s request for information to U.S. Central Command, officials also told the watchdog that it “continued to refine and adjust the [Operation Epic Fury mission] after it began.”'

I'd say someone needs to sit this fellow down with Clausewitz, but I gather that might be a bit too hard.

Perhaps someone can sit him down with Caitlin Fitz Gerald's The Children's Illustrated Clausewitz to start with.

He could learn something from 'Hare' Clausewitz.

Chat, was Clausewitz writing on war in the 18th century?
February 6, 2026 at 12:37 AM
Well, as military strategists Clausewitz and Jomini would both say, “damn, whatever’s in those Epstein files must be REALLY bad”

A history prof I read here said that war is politics conducted in another way, and an extension of policy. He's quoting Clausewitz and he's not wrong; it's embedded in the US military.

But I think he, Clausewitz and the Us are all wrong. War is the expression of fear, greed and the lust for power
