Always stay alert… Walking past some ivy on a southeast London street. My subconscious discerns a micromoth fizzing. Turns out to be Clepsis dumicolana. Turns out there are a dozen. Relatively recent, ivy-feeding colonist. And new for me.

Egg on face time. 🥚 👨🏻 🕰️

Gen. det. has come back and it’s not even an Acleris! It’s Clepsis consimilana (Rufous Tortrix) You live and you learn, though perhaps don’t learn in my case.

#teammoth
I’ve seen one of these (Tawny Oak/Tawny Birch Tortrix (Acleris ferrugana/notana agg.) before.

But this one, I think, is #290 Acleris ferrugana (Tawny Birch Tortrix), so will send it off for confirmation. ✂️

Either one will be new for the tetrad. 🔲

Numbers of moths right down with 12c and cool. 30sp 89moths. Even so, 4 more Mottled Willows continuing the daily arrivals and some nice common stuff. The darkest Flounced Rustic (hopefully 😅) I've ever seen, a pure gold Brassy Y, a well marked Cyclamen Tortrix and a Dichrorampha sp. #teammoth

Tortrix moth, Clepsis sp. Most members of this genus are considered pests. The genus name refers to their camouflage, meaning to conceal.

One of our moth records in St Helens trapped a probable Clepsis peritana, which if confirmed will be a new species for Lancashire #Teammoth

A trapping session for a couple of hours in a friend's garden last night was slightly disappointing, with not nearly as many moths flying as expected. Still, 34 species and 11 NFY, including Least Carpet, Clepsis dumicolana, Eudemis porphyrana and Argyresthia pruniella. #TeamMoth

NFY micros from today. Since they nearly beat me last year, I'm trying to stay ahead of a barrage of micros now that the crazy season has arrived. #teammoth
June 18, 2026 at 7:35 PM
Small Rufous Tortrix and Plum Tortrix were both new moths for me this morning (and new for VC38/SK10 list). Morophaga choragella was NFG; Purple Clay, Crambus perlella, Clepsis consimilana, Celypha lacunana + Ancylis achtana were all NFY.

Much improved numbers with 76:27, but a sea of brown as almost half of that was H&D and Dark Arches. Anarsia innoxiella was NFG, Beautiful H-t, Clepsis consimilana, LYU, Small Dusty Wave, Straw Dot, Uncertain, Eudonia lacustrata & Riband Wave NFY. #teammoth @pmandrews1973.bsky.social

This morning, it was another trap with few #moths. I swear, my numbers were better in June last year. There were three NFYs in the trap: Barred Straw, Light Emerald, and Clepsis Consimilana. Also, there was maybe a S. ambigualis that will remain ambiguous until I take a proper look at it. #teammoth

A blustrous night in vc64, so a rather modest 20/10. A couple of Light Emeralds to lift the spirits. And this tortrix - Obs says it's Rufous Tortrix Clepsis consimilana, but I'm not convinced. Any suggestions, #teammoth?
