Absolutely incredible: Tuesday morning's high tide in #Miami exceeded the major flood threshold... that is the 1st time it has ever happened in the city's history without a hurricane storm surge.
It tied (within 0.1 inches) the storm tides produced by Irene on Oct 15, 1999 and Wilma on Oct 24, 2005.

"Financial markets are reacting rationally" to the largely public-funded El Niño forecasts. And "Remedies abound... but they lack scale".
"Pricing El Niño is not the same as preventing its loss of life. Yet, many of those acting on its forecasts are using them to move money, not people, out of harm’s way."

My editorial for Science on why hedging El Niño is not the same as adapting to it: www.science.org/eprint/DU6FR...
