What a Canadian ownership agenda should really look like.

Canadians can't really be masters in our own home if that home is owned by a US hedge fund run by one of Trump's allies.

Mark Carney’s economic agenda misses something vital
So far, the prime minister's strategy for Canadians to own more of our economy is thin.

The Defector model isn't as easily replicable as I'd want, and I know the newsletter economy is fraught and top-heavy and difficult, but I believe this can be done even though I don't have a sure-shot one-size answer. It just sucks that it has to start from scratch like this.

Fewer startups, more co-ops.

Fewer founders, more communities.

The VA Home Loans Program has helped veterans & military families become homeowners for 80+ years.

In NYC, 2 in 3 apartment buildings are co-ops.

I introduced my Fair Access to Co-ops for Veterans Act with Rep. Nicole Malliotakis to expand this VA program to include co-ops. It's commonsense!

Twin Cities friends, note that Earthbound Farms is a subsidiary of Taylor Farms, and their products are carried by the food co-ops.
The diarrhea lettuce company, Taylor Farms, uses slave labor contracted from the Arizona Dept. of Corrections. The backbreaking labor is often performed by imprisoned Mexican nationals who would be otherwise ineligble to work in the US. They are paid $1.50 an hour.
The Diarrhea Lettuce Company Has Been Linked to Forced Labor
The lettuce-producing Taylor Farms was linked to the widespread use of prison labor before its involvement in a cyclospora outbreak.

Minnesota has a long and proud tradition of co-ops. From the early agricultural co-ops, to small rural electrical co-ops, to bicycle co-ops. I predict this rideshare co-op will be a huge success here.

when Democrats were in charge of this broadband grant program (BEAD), Ezra Klein and the "abundance" people had no shortage of complaints

now that Republicans are in charge and there's endless chaos, cronyism and delays, Klein hasn't made a single solitary peep
Nearly one-third of electric co-ops declined BEAD awards – NRECA
Of 63 electric co-ops that won BEAD awards, 20 have dropped from the program so far, said NRECA in a letter asking NTIA to 'correct course' on the program.

If farmers need to sell, they need to sell to co-ops so 'poor' people control the farms, not the oligarchs.

I don't get why people need to frame non-profit housing in opposition to market housing.

You can just say “we need more co-ops”. No need to include “not condos”.

The gives license to people to block new housing, which makes our shortage worse and doesn’t actually help get any more co-ops built!

More news co-ops!
"A group of D.C journalists who worked at a local news site that was abruptly shuttered by NPR affiliate WAMU earlier this year are launching their own nonprofit devoted to covering community news of Washington...It will be operated as a worker-run newsroom"

Support worker-owned co-ops, which are building a future where workers have control over their labor. We need so many more of them!!
Seward Cafe is the oldest cooperatively run restaurant in the United States, and they’re still about 12k short of the funds they need to stay open. It’s such a special place, and that’s honestly not that high a number! Let’s all pitch in to save the community center!

Where are the co-ops that Ken Sim promised to build?
We’re overdue for the federal govt to get back into financing and building co-op and public housing in cities like Vancouver.

We need fighters on City Council like @seanorr.bsky.social to push all levels of govt to fund the homes we need.
