Exciting times whilst gardening! Strange triangles on fallen bay (laurus nobilis) leaves appear to be the fruiting bodies of #microfungus coccomyces delta, which is relatively new in the UK and may not have been reported in Wales before (I suspect just under-reported). #fungi #coccomycesdelta

Coccomyces属の一種。
落葉上に発生する菌類。子実体は三角形や四角形の黒色で落葉上におしゃれな模様が描かれる。大きさは0.5～0.8mmほど。開く前の子実体には中心から角にかけて切れ目が入っており、三角形のものはヒルの噛み痕に似ているなあと思った。

En ook deze 'zeldzame' Kronkelstafjes. Ze staan als zeldzaam vermeld maar ik vind ze elk jaar in grote getallen omdat ik inmiddels weet waar ze te zoeken/vinden. Zo bijzonder hoe superklein geometrisch de natuur te werk kan gaan 😍

同じ落葉を不定期で観察中。

子実体そのものには大きな変化は見られない。周りの部分の表層が薄れたのか赤い斑紋が現れている。
全体を見ると子実体の周囲で黒ずんできている部分が増えてきた。

きのこ展楽しかった〜！！
ちびっこたちにグレバ系きのこを嗅がせたりCoccomycesを激しくアピるなどしてたけど不審者だったな…？🤔

Thanks to @daveslade42.bsky.social this species new to the UK in the last few years, was on my radar: Coccomyces delta. Found on fallen Laurus nobilis, Bay leaves. Ascomata/fruiting bodies often triangular. Recorded 30/05 Vale of Glamorgan VC 41. If you have Bay, have a look. @britmycolsoc.org.uk

I am going through my fungi photos to finally name and order them and have run into some brilliant species again, like this one, on oak leaves, the Coccomyces coronatus. It looks like something outer space right? 👽
