I teach an undergrad cognitive psychology class. I've been thinking about assembling useful teaching resources (demos, videos, etc.) from other cogpsy instructors & sharing them in a single place. If there's enough interest here, I'll make a separate post & ask you to share your favorite materials.

I assume you identify as cog as in cogsci and not as in cogpsy, but I will shut up before I am ostracised and banished to the outer realms

Read about our new paper on children’s interpretation of comparative words like bigger, smaller, and taller. #devpsych #devsci #psychscisky #language #cogpsy #linguistics
Our new paper (doi.org/10.1111/cdev... ) looked at when children figure out the meaning of words like bigger, smaller, and taller. We built something out of blocks and then asked children to build something (“Can you build one that’s bigger?”).

Advice needed! I'm looking for teaching resources to help guide undergraduate students how to read journal articles effectively.

Is perceptual novelty important in your research? We created, standardised, and validated a database of truly novel perceptual stimuli (matched to BOSS objects on size, contrast, luminance & colourfulness) so you don't have to! www.nature.com/articles/s41...

I'm a science teacher in England.

I do something that few British teachers do.

It's hard feeling like the only one.

There are lots of reasons why it's hard. One is a cognitive bias called "the curse of knowledge"

Fortunately, I have some understanding of psychology. A #CogSci #CogPsy #EduSky🧵

Nearly every word in that is a problem. I have this little scene in my head where Broadbent, Baddeley, Craik, Johnson-Laird et al each just mapped out their own bit of folk psychology with hard boundaries. That's why we have that set of topics inside cogpsy. Nothing more; no logic. Just folk psych.

(although now I'm reading one of your other threads and concerned i dont know the difference between cogpsy and cogsci and might crawl back into my "experimental psychologist" hole)
Thanks! Its too cool which means despite it being ancient I cannot bear to replace it

do brain types know the difference between accuracy and precision as we use it in CogPsy? I have a talk in front of ~ neuroscientists ~ this week, should I show them this lovely little graphic?
