#ColdFrames
Today in yay adulting: spreading the granulated insecticide for ants around the house perimeter and sowing arugula and kale seeds for coldframes because it's a rainy day and no better time to naturally water that stuff in.

Ugh, my squirrel brain is now doing the 'should I build some coldframes like....now for the winter?'

You can start direct sowing your cool season crops, like lettuces and radishes, in your unheated greenhouse or coldframes.

It was a busy day today at Plant Land. We took advantage of some early in the month light air and covered coldframes. No frost bite this year.
Big thanks to Cheryn, Gerald, Jake, Kelli, Rick and Wendy they were on fire today covering 10 coldframes from 8 - 2.

The boys threw shade over another bed. Don't let the heat next week keep you from shopping. We have most of our coldframes covered with shade so shopping should be hot but shady 🌳

The boys decided to play it safe and pull shade over a couple more coldframes. I think it was a good choice.
A quick reminder the heat don't really effect plants that are planted in the ground, but you may want to keep an eye on your flowering containers, they dry out fast in 100⁰

COLDFRAMES: we built these several years ago but never used them as moles got into them and ate all the plants - several times - so I gave up

This year, we moved them to a more accessible location & added a mesh bottom.

Its a wet mess but most of our coldframes are still covered for dry shopping. Bring the boots and the kids they will love tromping through the water.

Trifoliate orange and the contorted form 'Flying Dragon' are perfectly hardy in the ground to minus five F and probably lower. In containers, I would keep them in coldframes and 'Baby Dragon' especially.

We are, but whatever it takes to defeat this coup, we'll grit our teeth and hang on. I'm setting up coldframes for starting veggie seeds this week so we'll have tomatoes and peppers.
