#CollDev
Bora Chung (with translation by @antonhur.com) has a novel coming out in September 2025, FYI.

MIDNIGHT TIMETABLE about an employee on the night shift at a mysterious research institute that houses
cursed objects. #colldev #librarian #skybrarian
Today's #LibFaves24 pick is YOUR UPTOPIA by Bora Chung. Another outstanding collection of short stories told in a way you never expect. These are more scifi as opposed to horror from her last collection and is perfect for readers looking to experience the human condition in a different way.

Sad to be missing #UKSG2026 especially this tribute to Elaine Sykes (who I met via @rluk.ac.uk CSN & @copim.bsky.social) Elaine's courage in support of #openaccess & #openresearch inspired me to advocate for #OA & #OpenInfras in the #metadata & #CollDev space - I often think "what would Elaine do?"✊

glad to be at #NELA2025! and also wondering why there are no scheduled programs on readers’ advisory or collection development, and no microphone in this room #readadv #colldev #LibraryLife #conference #accessibility

Is there a #colldev starter pack or list/group etc? I want to try to build a better PLN (I’m sure we don’t call it that anymore 😅) and I had it on lock in teen services, but not so much in collection development.

eternally glad that there are librarians who love collection development because *wow* did I hate it when I was a liaison. Everything about liaison was wonderful except colldev, which I found grating and awful.

Our May newsletter includes not one but two author videos, including an interview with MORAL AMBITION author Rutger Bregman, amazing books by AAPI authors, and so many Fall 2025 titles to get lost in. #colldev #Librarysky #libraries #skybrarians

This. My local public library has in the past asked me for trade reviews when I'm recommending something pre-publication. Thankfully, the head of coll dev is also reasonable and tends to recognize that I've done the colldev analysis in my head for our community before I ask for purchase.
Yeah, libraries rely on trade pubs to do collection dev. If we can't find adequate reviews, it makes it harder to justify buying it and to defend it later if it's challenged. But trade reviews are just one factor in a long list.

ahhh. It really varies. I think a lot of (most?) multi-branch libraries do have centralized collection development, but there are some where the individual libraries are responsible for their own colldev.

part of this is because I *personally* hate spending money, and felt that colldev expenses were very much the Mad Magazine game ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mad... ), and the subject areas I was billeted on were *not anything I had academic or even personal interest in*.

Despite over a decade almost exclusively attending east coast ALAs for the exhibits, on exhibit passes b/c CollDev, it didn’t occur to me [until now] that @fishinnards.bsky.social could probably pop up for the day even tho he isn’t attending this year. And what a fine day Sunday sounds like. 🤣

I'm an archivist with a colldev/acquisitions role, been in and out of webarch stuff for about 10 years? Just curious about any national webarch strategy group (apart from Mellon dropping a bone to IA every once in a while)

Collections class harder than working in collections development? It's 100% harder than you think.

Not because the assignments themselves (though mostly irrelevant to the reality of colldev wrk). More because the extensive amount of work needed in a week while nearly all of us have full time jobs.

Related to CollDev I'm investigating the parallel rose between real-life book bannings and women's fiction with titles like 'the littlest brave bookshop in vichy france'
