Librarians are seeing the same trend.
I've been publishing books for young readers for 23 years. In the past three years, there's been a huge change. The discourse is fraught. Now I am regularly accused of being a "groomer" a "pornographer" and a "pedophile." For writing kids books. It's horrible. And nonsensical. And not okay.

The biggest thing you should know when people freak out about libraries getting rid of books is: yes, the librarians have thought of that. You undoubtedly have expertise in your specific job or field, and so do the librarians. Librarians have communities of theory and practice, and also, constraints

sympathy for those poor Iraqi librarians whose bosses have been gotten to by the same library consultants that plague the West and that those consultants forced the Iraqi librarians to use the phrase "knowledge station," which is just embarrassing. Honestly, Iraqi librarians, let's all team up and

But if you're not in children's literature, you should know that it's scary out here. Librarians, teachers, booksellers, and those who are public facing are being dehumanized and receiving scary threats. The discourse is overblown and at times violent. About kids books.

A completely objective and unbiased scale:

Librarians < Archivists < Archaeologists < Train Nerds < Whatever the hell this is
i know one of m’colleagues specializes in the evolution of one specific foot bone, so in bio anthro seminar i asked if one could also study to be “some kind of tooth nerd.” one of the other grad students practically leapt out of her seat with glee to share with me the Joy of Teeth
Working in the heritage sector is just muttering under your breath "wow, what a bunch of nerds" when you find a group of people with a slightly different discipline to you

But I would ask all the FUN questions.

At a time when so many of us are watching our hard work get stolen and repurposed by "Ai" we are also faced with threats in our community. Please watch the Emmy award winning documentary The Librarians. And call your reps to push against these federal book banning bills: HR 7661, 2616, and 8705.
