#Colposcopy
"She was referred for a colposcopy in November 2024, which should have been done within 30 working days, but was eventually booked for six months later. The woman had by then developed heavy bleeding and night sweats, and was eventually diagnosed with stage three cancer."

Yeah, they refuse to knock me out for a colposcopy or a LEEP. It's positively medieval & traumatizing. I'm going in for yet another procedure next week, & all they recommend is two Advil & two Tylenol.

Can AI make up for a lack of clinical experience? In a new external validation, AI assistance boosted colposcopists' cervical precancer detection sensitivity from 84.8% to 90.6%, proving its utility outside of curated internal testing datasets.
External validation of AI assisted colposcopy using WHO dataset for cervical precancer and cancer detection
An independent validation of an AI colposcopy tool shows it closes the expertise gap and prevents unnecessary tissue sampling.

haha instead of a colposcopy you get a whore-o-scope You: Why is this medium here??
Medium: I'm here to read your cervix

I would love it. Let's start with making them all feel a colposcopy without even a Tylenol beforehand.

I remember in sharp detail my biopsy/colposcopy more than 30 years ago. I switched to a female gyn after that.

83% of gynecologists in the US are female

The freezing for a colposcopy can cause significant pain. Each specialist determines how to manage their patients, including the 83% of female gynecologists in the country when the procedure is typically of short duration

It is not because of gender bias

I had a colposcopy in 2006. They gave nothing for the pain. It was excruciating. I’ve had many surgeries including 3 back surgeries & a shattered tibia/fibula that took 8 hours on the operating table! However, besides those that colposcopy was the most painful procedure w/o any pain relief! Barbaric

The number of times I’ve been told ‘just a pinch’ or ‘slight discomfort’ before nearly passing out from the pain of a gynecological procedure is barbaric. I have a very high pain tolerance but both a colposcopy and insertion of an IUD almost made me faint.

I once tore my Achilles, but the colposcopy was the worst pain I've ever felt.

I have seen women after a colposcopy. This is terrible. A couple of Tylenol. WTF. A chunk of tissue is being taken out of the uterus. JFC this is horrible.
The cervical punch biopsy and colposcopy was easily the worst pain I’ve felt in my entire life.

Outrageous!! I had a colposcopy at like 18. I was not well informed on what was going to happen!

I screamed and recoiled and they didn't get the sample on the first try...
September 24, 2026 at 2:56 PM
I almost passed out from the colposcopy pain. They gave me ibuprofen and MADE ME GET UP AND LEAVE THE EXAM ROOM! I had to wait out the pain in my car before I could drive home.
September 24, 2026 at 1:56 PM
I’ve had both a colposcopy and a hysterosalpingography and no one discussed pain management with me: only “pinching” and “pressure”.
September 24, 2026 at 1:30 PM
Concur as well. Had a biopsy and colposcopy done 20 years ago. Then I needed a biopsy of a polyp a few years ago, and remembering the pain, demanded I at least have a numbing agent. Still horrible.

There are no meds for a *colposcopy*. If you're lucky, your OB/GYN will remind you to take a Tylenol before the procedure.

There is no anesthetic given for this procedure. It's painful.

You're thinking about colonoscopy.
September 24, 2026 at 12:42 PM
I’ve had all three. My colposcopy was the worst because the doctor refused to believe it was causing any pain at all and pushed through without any pain mitigation.
With birth and kidney stones, I said I was in pain, I was believed and I was given medication.
September 24, 2026 at 12:26 PM
I've had a gallstone pass, and my colposcopy was worse.
September 24, 2026 at 12:10 PM
If the pain of a colposcopy is "normal", why then were people surprised when I tried to walk around on what turned out to be a broken hip ...??
September 24, 2026 at 11:57 AM
I’ve had many children, the colposcopy was uncomfortable but nowhere near worst pain for me. A weird pinching feeling
September 24, 2026 at 11:41 AM
Well you obviously never had a kidney stone or given birth. I have had a colposcopy and it did not compare to the pain of my kidney stone.
September 24, 2026 at 11:40 AM
Yes, I was pointing out from the view of the colonoscopy mentioned, that it may be merely a tiny bit uncomfortable at odd spots in time but not at all painful and no reason for analgesics or sedation.
Colposcopy involves cutting and should obviously be done under anaesthetic or good sedation
September 24, 2026 at 11:40 AM
I almost passed out after my colposcopy with no anesthesia
