The university is working with local officials for the student's release. #LawEnforcement The incident occurred early in the morning when five federal agents accessed an off-campus residential building. Security footage showed them misleading residents with photos of a "missing child." The university president emphasized, "misrepresenting identity...is a breach of protocol." The administration is actively supporting the affected students and collaborating with the mayor and governor to resolve the situation. — Columbia’s acting President, Claire Shipman, posted this message following the incident yesterday where Columbia student Ellie Aghayeva was taken from her apartment by DHS agents. This is what she says happened. She accuses the agents of breaching protocol and failing to show a warrant. More details are in the video. Mamdani helped get Ellie released yesterday after talking to Trump. DHS said they were going after Ellie because they claim she’s an undocumented immigrant “whose student visa was terminated in 2016 under the Obama administration for failing to attend classes.” Her exact status isn’t publicly known at this point. She’s a senior at Columbia and an international student studying neuroscience and political science. #LuisaPalacios, a researcher with #ColumbiaUniversity's energy think tank, wrote Sunday that an optimistic but plausible scenario could see production rise by 500K to 1M barrels per day within 2 years. This would stem from better governance and lifting of US sanctions that remain in effect.

Disappointed at #ColumbiaUniversity’s capitulation to #Trump on Middle Eastern studies and free speech protocols. This will result in a chilling effect on universities nationwide. Academia is traditionally among the first victims of authoritarianism.

#ColumbiaUniversity’s endowment is $1.2 BILLION dollars.
The cowardice of institutions has always been staggering, but since January 20 American institutions have folded near-instantaneously.

The word “disgraceful” in no way encapsulates the depth and scope of the cravenness of our institutions.
