The issue was that saying and receiving happen in the same moment.

You open your mouth and the other person is already there, reacting, flinching, interrupting.

Try saying thirty years of hard things into that.

So the hard words wait.

They wait for a moment when the other person can't interfere, and that moment never comes on its own.

Nobody built a mechanism for it.

Real-time conversation is the only tool people have and for this it's the wrong one.

Part of why the words don't get sent is the sending itself.

A phone call gets interrupted.

The other person is loading their defense while you talk.

You can't be heard through that.
