#RickMercer #RMR visits #PrinceEdwardIsland and the #ConfederationBridge otherwise knows as the #FixedLink between #PEI and #NB. It is an #engineeringmarvel and at 12.9 km (8 miles) long, it is the #worldslongestbridge that spans ice-covered waters.

PEI is connected to the mainland of #NovaScotia by ferries that run from May-Dec across the Strait. The #confederationbridge or fixed link is the first ever over ocean waters that freeze. It’s 12.9 km is an architectural landmark.
Seen in the distance, the fixed link over the Northumberland strait is 12.9 kms long and attached PEI to New Brunswick year round. Canola grown island farms are generally research focused specialty and non-GMO crops The aerial show the quilted landscape including the bright red soil, blue ocean and green fields. The Teacup Rock, at Thunder Cove beach along the north shore Atlantic Oceanside of PEI, was destroyed with the Hurricane Fiona with 169 kmph winds and storm surge with offshore wave heights of over 8 metres

The long bridge known as the Confederation Bridge, or Fixed Link stretches across a body of water known as the Northumberland Strait, between New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island Canada, with large rocks in the foreground. But since 1997, you have another option, and that is the engineering marvel known as the Confederation Bridge. Opened for use in 1997, the Confederation Bridge, or Fixed Link fulfilled a promise made to the residents of Prince Edward Island that one day they would be joined to the rest of Canada by a permanent connection. The bridge is an engineering feat, and is the longest bridge in the world over ice-covered water. Built to last for 100 years, at a cost of $1 billion,it is a multi-span concrete box girder design,with high arches built near the center of the 7 mile crossing, so that large ships may pass safely beneath.
