To be more specific the pastor of my hometown’s Congregationalist church is throwing a movies in the park series this summer and I am anticipating the critiques from the Trumpist faction a bit

The white steepled churches are all either UU, congregationalist, or that particular flavor of New England Baptist. They're all competing to see who has the largest Pride and BLM flag. The 80 year old ladies at the church bake sale all respect your pronouns

Mostly pretty good at his actual job, admittedly very lousy at his imagined jobs of primary Democratic media face, lefty-congregationalist preacher, and human Lexipro
Unpopular opinion alert: Chuck Schumer deserves credit for keeping his caucus in line until Republicans folded.
Senate Democrats held firm for weeks forcing Senate Republicans to capitulate. www.politico.com/news/2026/03...

Seriously, I don’t think I ported the thread over from Twitter, but I had a whole thread about a mainline—Episcopalian? Congregationalist? some flavor of very ordinary church—hymn that had a line that was like “we, the Levites, sing…”

A Congregationalist minister from Wabaunsee, KS writing to FDR, 1935: "There is around here a prejudice against the work socialism, but there is an increasing approval of socialist ideas....I have preached these doctrines and find them growing in acceptance. The people hope you will adopt them..."

This conversation started as a discussion about the popularity of the song Choosin’ Texas. Did not expect it to end up with the term “quasi-congregationalist polity” but I am not complaining
And because the URC operates a quasi-congregationalist polity I think you get a lot more variation between congregations than you would within Methodism?

Lower-tier Congregationalist in 1758 energy, that's what I'm asking for.

Well, 'the Puritans' were not a homogeneous faction. Milton himself wrote poems and prose trashing mainstream Presbyterian dogma. He wasn't even a normal congregationalist. Poetry also given much more leeway by the censors post-Restoration...

His “agree to disagree” thing with the pope is hilarious. He should be a Congregationalist.

For every Anglican/Congregationalist/Baptist there is an equal and opposite Friend/Moravian.
It’s a really funny runner how every issue in American history that apologists claim “no one” knew was wrong has a corresponding Quaker going “this is wrong”
Some folks will be like "what about women's rights?" Paine landed right on that too! Raised a Quaker, Paine essayed against the "enslavement and oppression of women," partnered with Mary Wollstonecraft on A Vindication of the Rights of Women, argued for state maternity support and civil suffrage.

No the Waynes are pure Episcopalian, surely (maybe Presbyterian or Congregationalist a few generations back)

It is always conditional, and you are never so white that it can't be taken away.

I am WASP Mayflower material on one side, WASP DAR-qualifying on the other. I was brought up Presbyterian, my parents Congregationalist.

Nazis still decided I was Jewish and therefore fair game for murder.
Whiteness can be revoked at any time for any reason
one thing people really don’t comprehend is that whiteness is conditional and it is not at all a one way ratchet

and that reality is going to hit conservative jews very quickly

Anne Bradstreet was a Puritan and Jonathan Edwards was a Congregationalist.

I'm no fan of the Puritans, but come now.

But the 40,000th is ‘Congregationalist’
August 15, 2025 at 11:31 AM
and to be clear, I don’t think the average person in the pews at your local Congregationalist church or whatever is twirling their mustache and thinking “How can we eliminate every ideology but our own?”

I don’t think they’re thinking much about it at all

but you don’t need 100% enthusiasts

Primary export economy a small liberal arts college founded by a local Congregationalist church mostly notable for an 1850s sermon series on the theme “George Washington, the damnable slaver, is burning in Hell, and so too shall every man of Virginia who would hold his Brother in Bondage”

It's still en vogue in New England Congregationalist churches and probably also Black Congregationalist churches in the South, and definitely AME churches. Its the bizarre alignment between white Baptists and Catholics that really blows my mind, since Baptists think Catholics are idolaters.

NEW: Three Minnesota faith groups/leaders — local ELCA and UCC bodies, and a Jesuit priest — are suing DHS over its refusal to grant them access to immigrant detainees at a federal building.

It's one of 2 related suits filed against the government in recent months. religionnews.com/2026/02/23/f...
Minnesota faith groups sue DHS over access to immigrant detainees
It's at least the second lawsuit challenging the federal government's policy of barring faith leaders from accessing some DHS facilities.
