So VR seems to be working pretty okay on my linux setup
Solid B+ experience
I do need to perform some wizardry to get it to work. The ritual atm is:
- Make sure the headset isn't plugged in before I start my pc
- Plug it in after boot but before steam opens
- Load CoreCtrl
- Switch audio manually

Most of my help was from Spex, I believe I'm using Envision & WiVRn. I'm also using CoreCtrl to set my GPU profile to VR mode. It's a bit of a handful, but it's pretty easy once it's all setup!

finally sorted out the heavy video throttling issue in Ubuntu when my Ryzen 5 laptop is in battery mode.
i use CoreCtrl to adjust GPU/CPU performance, and i needed to raise the GPU speed low limit to around 900 Mhz. throttling gone.
the OS default is too aggressively low.

Muss aber dennoch erst das mit corectrl fertig machen um auch die lüftersteuerung zu aktivieren

decided to fiddle around with the CoreCtrl utility on my Linux PC, and it has an Automatic mode, where you can trigger it with a running executable.
i have mine set to boost the CPU when it sees Chrome browser running, and it works great! i've set another rule to trigger it with my video editor

If you’re gaming and want to overclock/undervolt your GPU, CoreCtrl is a really good option, just make sure you read their guide, especially if you’re using an AMD GPU, as theres some fiddling you have to do to unlock full control on those

Podróż w czasie do czasów Debianowych, z tym że Debiana znam od podszewki. Yast tkwi w latach '90. Godzinę spędziłem, żeby wpuścić WiVRn przez firewalla. CoreCtrl nadal nie rusza bez hasła admina. apt >> zypper.

Hier gibt es einen Ansatz, den man verfolgen kann. So kann man den Treiber auf vernünftige Werte zwingen. Man muss nicht übertakten. Man kann das Energiemanagement und die Kühlung aber zurecht biegen. Nicht schön, doch funktional.

If you use ALVR and then use CoreCtrl to force your GPU to actually kick into gear when vrmonitor is running it's actually a very good experience. I'd recommend reading through the ALVR GitHub wiki for your distro

I love CoreCtrl, because it just integrates way better into my Plasma Desktop than LACT and I think TuxClocker did not have the same feature set, when I tried it.

CoreCtrl is not needed anymore as far as I'm aware, and Envision should not be necessary on some distros - on Arch you can just install `wivrn-dashboard` and `xrizer-git` from the AUR and you're good to go! Gentoo and Fedora also have packages for WiVRn.

Getting CoreCtrl running has been so clutch for the GPUs. Undervolting to -30mV helps a little maybe.
But I can dial in the watts so easy on the GPU. It'll happily suck 350w for some games! But unnoticeable diff saying, no, use 120w, use 50w even!!!

I did dial my GPU under volt from -15mV to -33mV. But CoreCtrl shows a couple watt savings, 21->19W ish at best. Undoing confirms.

Das kannst du auch über Deckyloader machen... Sehr bequem sogar. Aber Corectrl ist ja jetzt nicht gerade schwer einzubinden. Frage mich nur wozu? Kann dein EFI genau so gut. Bist ja auf dem Desktop ja nicht so darauf angewiesen. Da lohnt eher DownVolting.

apparently there's been a step i've never done with corectrl bc it never told me.
