Woot! It was so painful, but I think I solved the Catch-22 issues I was having with my custom CoreDNS plugin and recursive CNAME lookups with delegation. I set a metadata value in my plugin, and then I can match that in a "view" that does the lookup using the proxy plugin. github.com/hexcamp/hexc...

It doesn’t look like much but there’s 76,000 lines of Kubernetes code under there. I have a Kubelet, an apiserver, a probing subsystem, pod life cycle event generator, container GC, container runtime, container network, CoreDNS, various resource controllers. It is as realistic as I can make it.

I set up a site-to-site VPN on my @ubiquiti.bsky.social router, forwarded pod/node/service IP space on my home network to my cluster, and delegated Kubernetes cluster domain (*.cluster.local) to CoreDNS, and I can hit K8s services running on my NUCs without a load balancer
