840MHz works for a minute or two at a time, although we were seeing some CRC errors from the coremark.

Linux 7.1.0-rc2 running on FPGA hardware on my KianV Stealth RV32IMA+SV32 SoC.
5-stage pipeline, SV32 MMU, GShare predictor, burst SDRAM.
102.07 CoreMark @ 50 MHz (CPI 1.68) under Linux.
Everything implemented from scratch.

Small update: I now have dual-core SMP with a CoreMark > 2, without an L2 cache. Pretty damn cool.

Added CoreMark scores and FFmpeg FPS (among with many other attributes you need the instance itself for, such as GPU architecture/temps/wattage and memory speed) to instances.vantage.sh 😀

(ffmpeg fps is the first min of big buck bunny transcoded from 4k to 1080p)

Experimenting with a Risc-V build of coremark. Interestingly, it runs about 5% faster (although my Arm build was with gcc 10 and the Risc-V build is with gcc 14 so it might not be an entirely fair comparison).

Also at room temperature it seems stable very slightly faster than Arm...

I have open sourced my RISC-V core at github.com/jamieiles/rxv. The core is RV32IMA with a few extra extensions and boots unmodified upstream OpenSBI and Linux and is FPGA proven. It achieves 2.61 CoreMark/MHz, supports register rename, fast branch prediction, parallel functional units and PMUs.

I'm running the coremark benchmark on both cores as the test that it's running OK.

As for how we're overclocking it, we have been playing with a couple of options:
- using the ring oscillator which automatically goes faster as you reduce temperature / increase voltage

After lots of debugging and nothing short of arcane magic, I managed to run CoreMark on my CPU!

SDRAM, w/o BTB: 91 CoreMarks (0.88 CM/MHz)
SDRAM, w/ BTB: 100 CoreMarks (0.97 CM/MHz)
BRAM, w/o BTB: 153 CoreMarks (1.49 CM/MHz)
BRAM, w/ BTB: 187 CoreMarks (1.82 CM/MHz)

I'm cautiously optimistic!

Dear Lazyweb,
What 32-bit #microcontroller (i.e., Cortex-M or RV32, not a Linux application processor) has the highest Coremark/mW, or lowest uA/MHz? A quick search suggests Ambiq Apollo 4 or ST STM32U3, but are there others I should look at?
I want the maximum CPU performance I can get powered […]
