Word clocks swap hands and digits for a grid of letters, lighting only the words needed to say "It's a quarter past three." LEDs, a microcontroller and a laser-cut stencil do the work.

A world model running on a Raspberry Pi Pico 2 W sounds impossible until you check the split: training still happens on an RTX 4060, and only the inference gets squeezed onto the microcontroller. #hardware 1/4

basically we need either

1) a microcontroller with enough ram (~1gb) that is cheaper than a pi 5 2gb

2) an array of 4 16mp cams that can sync perfectly that is somehow cheaper than our current setup of a 64mp arducam + pi5
Dear hardware hackers: I have a good challenge for you! What's the cheapest way to get a really high quality, high resolution still image? (especially if we can get away from a raspberry pi!)

Did you know that an RP2350 microcontroller chip can output 640x480 video at 60fps? If you've got a Fruit Jam, try the demos at github.com/raphlinus/vi... (the v0.1.0 release has the video assets).

A lot of stuff came together for this demo, including inventing a new image compression scheme and

Exactly. I found the microcontroller on the Arduino couldn’t handle the display interrupts, so I made a custom HAT with a Super Mini ESP32-S3 and kept the Arduino for the Whisper/Piper STT/TTS handles with an Ollama.cpp LLM. Here’s my build: github.com/Unixgod2000/...
